ExxonMobil and Employees Give $143,000 to Texas Tech University System

The ExxonMobil Foundation presented Texas Tech University System administrators with more than $143,000 representing their match of donations made to Texas Tech by ExxonMobil employees and retirees through the ExxonMobil Educational Matching Gift Program.

Created in 1962, the ExxonMobil Educational Matching Gift Program allows donors to pledge up to $7,500 per year to colleges or universities. The program matches gifts from employees and retirees on a 3-to-1 basis.

This year’s gift from the energy company includes $141,435 for Texas Tech University and $1,725 for Angelo State University. ExxonMobil encourages college and university presidents to direct the matching gift funds to programs that support the ExxonMobil Foundation’s goals of developing more highly qualified math and science teachers and encouraging more students to pursue engineering and science careers.

“These generous donations from ExxonMobil employees and retirees validate their belief in higher education as an investment for the future,” said Kenneth P. Cohen, ExxonMobil vice president for public and government affairs and chairman of the ExxonMobil Foundation. “This focus on education is paving the way for leaders of tomorrow who will be crucial for the continued success of our country.”
